There was a tragic accident that happened yesterday night near Balasore that took nearly 290 lives and 900 were injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the train accident site and also met injured travellers at Cuttack Hospital.

Initial reports say that Chennai-Coromandel Express took the loop instead of the main line just before the Bahanagar Bazar Station. The station has two main lines and two loop lines. The Coromandel Express running at a speed of 127km/ph took the loop line. Within minutes Coromandel Express hit the goods train parked on the loop line. The very next minute Howrah - Yashwantnagar Express coming in the opposite direction collided with the derailed Coromandel Express coaches.

Few areal views have been released by the officials, where the visuals are disturbing. Coaches were spotted one on another and dead bodies were lying on the railway track.

On the flip side, there was a ceremony to flag off of Goa-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express at Madgoan station. The event has been cancelled after the Odisha incident. Konkan Railways officially announced the same. Narendra Modi was about to wave off the flag in a video link, while Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw would remain at the station.
