The BBC is under fire in India for how it reported on the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians at a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir last week. A formal complaint has been lodged by the government with Jackie Martin, who manages the BBC’s operations in the country, addressing the strong emotions surrounding the incident. This warning was issued after the UK-based news organization published an article titled "Pakistan suspends visas for Indians after deadly Kashmir attack on tourists." A user on social media pointed out that the title could mislead readers by presenting India unfavorably. Additionally, the government has expressed concern over the terminology used in the article, specifically the choice of "militants" instead of "terrorists."

Moreover, in response to the online content circulating about this horrific attack, the Indian government has blocked 16 YouTube channels originating from Pakistan, following recommendations from the Home Ministry. Among the affected channels are those belonging to notable news networks such as Dawn, Samaa TV, ARY News, Bol News, Raftar, Geo News, and Suno News. Channels run by journalists including Irshad Bhatti, Asma Shirazi, Umar Cheema, and Muneeb Farooq have also been shut down. Other banned channels include The Pakistan Reference, Samaa Sports, Uzair Cricket, and Razi Naama. Users attempting to access these channels now encounter a message stating: "This content is currently unavailable in this country because of an order from the government related to national security or public order."

Sources within the government indicate that these measures aim to curb the dissemination of inflammatory and communal content, as well as deceptive narratives aimed at India and its security forces following the tragic deaths in Pahalgam. These developments coincide with India’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty in light of suspected ties to Pakistan in the attack. Additionally, Pakistani nationals residing in India have been instructed to leave by Sunday, while those holding medical visas must depart by Tuesday. In retaliation, Pakistan has halted all agreements with India, including the Simla Agreement. Tensions along the Line of Control have risen, with Pakistan continually breaching ceasefire agreements and attempting to provoke Indian military personnel.
