Minimum wage battle starts again in Connecticut

If the state is considering to raise the minimum wage for the second time in four years, then the efforts should start in the House.

In a committee two proposals were introduced to hike the minimum wages, but only the House version of the bill, which was sponsored by Democrats, managed to achieve enough votes to go to the House Floor. Republicans successfully blocked the Senate version.

The Republican President Pro Tem of the Senate, Senator Len Fasano said that he voted for the minimum wage a few years back because it made sense. But, cannot be absorbed this time, he said.

After approved to go up in stages in 2014 March, the minimum wages officially reached to $10.10 this January.

Now, that several states in the country have hiked the minimum wages in similar ways. California, Washington D.C. and New York have approved plans to reach $15 per hour wages within the coming years.

The majority leader in the Senate Bob Duff said that he would be willing to attempt to force a vote on the issue to get the bill to Governor Dannel Malloy’s desk

"Whatever fight we have to do, I think it's worth the fight to make sure that we are standing up for the families all across the state of Connecticut. We're not siding with the lobbyists here in the state capitol," Sen. Duff said.

Fasano said that Connecticut needs to rebuild its economy, rather than keep hiking the minimum wages again.

He said a healthy economy will get the state whatever they want to, instead of arbitrarily setting a line and saying everyone's happy, here we go.
